Decorating Tips? Anyone?

Ok, all you "Spectral Parents," (doesn't that sound soooo much cooler than "parents of kids on the spectrum?") I need your help. In the previous post I had mentioned that I'm ultimately going to be painting SmallBoy's room. Considering it takes me FOREVER to pick paint shades, I thought I'd ask for suggestions. Right now his room is white, with trim, door cutouts, chair rail, accented in primary colors. It's nice, but he's going to be 10 next month, so it's time to make it a "big kid" room. PC suggested, as certain colors have certain effects on people, that perhaps there are colors that are better than others for ASD kids. This is where you come in. I know there are LOTS of you out there who have tons o' knowledge in this area. Can you offer up some ideas?

Well, I don't have any decorating tips, but I just wanted to say "Welcome Back" mommyguilt- I missed you while you were gone and appreciate your comments now that you're back.

My sons share a room, with white walls and an Ohio State border around the top- the quickest thing we could slap up there to make it look decorated.

I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey you! G says she likes lots of blues and greens. She finds them soothing. Nothing really bright and in your face. She also recommends against those beads that hang in doorways because they "make too much noise and just get tangled anyway." Hee.

Thanks, Laura! Tell G thanks, too! I appreciate it! It will take me a year to get it painted, but I suppose I have to start somewhere!

Gretchen - I like the sweet and empty look, but you still have a theme! Not too busy seems to be the concensus that I've been running across doing this research.

Have you already painted?

I opt for a sage green. Paint the molding a crisp white.

Let ds choose a "theme" (outer space, sports, etc.) and go from there.

How fun!
