A Reminder of the Heat in the Midwest

Last night was the first night we spent at home since Sunday night. The heat here has been ridiculous, and, as I said in an earlier post, we've been staying at my in-law's house at their suggestion, while they've been out of town (the kids loved it, Meem). The heat finally broke on Wednesday when the Chicago area (and most of the midwest) was graced by an INCREDIBLE storm. Our house was JUST beginning to cool, thanks to the effort of our hardworking window fans, when the power went out. Not our entire neighborhood, not even our whole block, two doors down from us had lights. But we, and those north of us on our side of the block, were powerless and hot. We all started to get cranky, and poor poor SmallBoy who had JUST gotten back to his comfort zone, his home, his own bed, his stuff, well, his engine got revved even higher than ours, and he lost it. Then I cracked, PC made me take a walk and chill - which I did, and we made the most obvious decision to pack up and go back to the in-law's.

Last night, was our first opportunity to see the result of the heat on our house. The cats were pissed, the dog had shed enough to knit about 10 sweaters (yes, we did go home everyday and tend to them, don't worry), and, well, some things, um, well, melted and turned, um, a little, er....obscene (refer to Moi's posting to laugh even harder at the coincidence of this, as she and I had been commenting about the obscenity at her house -yes, it's a Christmas holder, I forgot to put it away):

Moi - I thought you might get a giggle or two out of that! I HAD to take a picture as soon as I saw it! Immediately thought of you. Hope the heat's breaking for you. Band is playing tonight...check out myspace.com/yourcodewest to see a quick video snippet of a performance we did in June.

KR - yes, that's ALL it symbolizes - a melted candle. Tee hee

Very funny picture!

The heat is suppose to break today here finally. I am planning on bringing the boys to the beach for the day.

Glad you have your in-laws to retreat to!
