I don't think that it was abusive, sounds more like tough love to me. Sometimes it is necessary to take drastic measures to get through to teenagers. When I was that age....let's just say that I gave my parents a hard time and I am glad that they were strict and to the point who knows where I would be if they had not been so stringent.
