Guess What, Shoppers?

Before Trick or Treating was over last night, and as I was getting ready to go and do a bit of treating of my own, I heard, coming out of my living room, a COMMERCIAL FOR SOMETHING CHRISTMAS!!! For Pete's sakes! Halloween wasn't even officially over! Couldn't they have waited until today, at least, to start the countdown?

How ridiculous is that? Political Correctness aside, I'm sorry, but this whole Christmas shopping countdown starting before the last of the Halloween Candy has been passed, checked, snagged, or eaten is just INSANE! I'm having a hard enough time trying to figure out how to manipulate Thanksgiving. I'm not ready for the madness yet!!!!!!1

I am SO NOT READY for Christmas! Agh. And I'm now faced with the dilemma of what to buy my youngest daughter. Most of the toys she's ready for, her brother already has. I don't want to add to the overload. What to do, what to do...

Books. Books. Books. Give the grown-ups in your life a donation to their favorite charity. We can all use less of things, except books, and music, and Harley Davidson memorablilia. All of which can be purchased from the comfort of your very own computer in your jammies at 10 p.m. Also, apparently none of you were in TARGET about a month ago when the Halloween display was up, but the Christmas lights and outdoor displays were creeping up on the far walls of the seasonal display. Don't get me started about what I saw at Costco today. My GOSH there's alot you can buy to make your Christmas merry and bright.

I'm just NOT ready! I always have said that once you get past the 4th of July, the year is over. I mean, think about it...

Here in the UK, Christmas decorations & adverts start as soon as the summer hols are over, on 1st September!

As we don't do Halloween much & no Thanksgiving, there is nothing in the way of the commercial side of Christmas! Think yourself lucky:-)

If you're in the business of Christmas here in the UK, you realise that Xmas starts in AUGUST! Everything ready for selling on August Bank Holiday. And some people buy in a frenzy! I couldn't handle Thanksgiving and Halloween as well. But perhaps that's why we start getting ready so early - we've got a clear run!!!

Before Halloween, Walgreens were stocking up the Christmas aisles! I'm tired of fighting it anymore. I think I'm going to have to go ahead and join them - candy cane, anyone?

PC & Girl have been singing "White Christmas" since June. I'm not ready to surrender yet. Of course, I'll be out on the 25th at 5 am doing my shopping, though.

What about Thanksgiving! Or just enjoying the fall--it's my favorite season; am definitely not interested in preparing for a white or blue or whatever Xmas. Another sign is that my mailbox has been stuffed to the gills with catalogues--unsubtle reminders----I really like how you convey the "daily argh and sigh" we all feel.

I'm Jewish and my friends who observe Christmas also have the same complaints, "It's all too early! I feel so much pressure." I tell them "No wonder You People (said with love and humor)are so stressed our and cranky by the time Christmas actually arrives." I cannot even imagine how I would feel if I was bombarded for months with Klezmer (or some other Jewish musical stuff) music almost everywhere I went, and then expected to feel excited and moved spiritually on top of it once our high holidays began. Or if I had to listen to recordings of everyone from Elvis to Green Day's holiday album! (okay, so maybe Green Day doesn't have a holiday album, but I think you get my meaning.) If I ruled the world, I'd bring back the protocol of Thanksgiving first, then Christmas in the stores and everywhere else. Hang in there. Maybe shop online and listen to your own music. ;)
